Lone Sentry
Western/European capercaillie, also known as a wood grouse.
Captured from the frozen surface of Lake Inari in northern Finland. We have been cross-country skiing there for a week, sleeping in huts on numerous islands. It was cold and windy, with almost no sun at all. We have met some reindeer herds, but surprisingly, almost no birds in sight. And still, turns out some birds call this place home.
I love your work!!!
Thank you!
What is this bird??
I’m not sure yet! It’s either black grouse or capercaillie, but I think black grouse is more probable. I’m trying to get some info confirmation from birders I know in this facebook post, let’s see 😉
Turns out it’s a capercaillie after all! Confirmed with some people who know a lot 🙂
Beautiful, should be called Fat Bird
You are so right. That is a big bird.
